Vega de Espinareda, León

Esta población que forma parte de la Reserva de la Biosfera de los Ancares, rodeada de bosques de robles y acebos, castaños milenarios y hayas centenarias, estuvo habitada desde tiempos remotos; conserva restos de castros y se sabe que en su término hubo explotaciones de oro romanas. A destacar su conjunto de arquitectura popular de piedra y pizarra, el cercano puente romano sobre el río Cúa y sobre todo el monumental monasterio de San Andrés, una abadía fundada en el s.IX y muy reformada posteriormente. El poder de este monasterio alcanzaba a treinta pueblos de la comarca y declinó por completo tras la Desamortización de Mendizábal, cuando perdió la mayor parte de sus tierras.
