Bárcena de Pie de Concha, Cantabria

La discreta belleza de este valle, cuyas principales poblaciones son Bárcena de Pie de Concha, Arenas de Iguña y Molledo, esconde un rico patrimonio arquitectónico que incluye templos románicos, la iglesia mozárabe de San Román del s. X, en Bostronizo, varias casonas montañesas y la llamada torre de Quevedo, vinculada a la familia del escritor. También merece una escapada el palacio de Hornillos, obra del arquitecto inglés Ralph Selden, que también realizó el palacio de La Magdalena. Los cinéfilos reconocerán el palacio de Hornillos, en Las Fraguas de Iguña, como el escenario de la película “Los Otros” de Alejandro Amenábar. A poca distancia del palacio, la iglesia de San Jorge evoca el Partenón, como se le conoce popularmente por sus similitudes con el edificio griego.
