La pujanza de Sitges le debe mucho a la larga tradición pesquera de esta ciudad, uno de los puertos más activos de la comarca del Garraf, así como al cultivo de los viñedos de malvasía y a la producción de este vino. La villa se asoma al mar sobre un promontorio en el que se encuentra el llamado Racó de la Calma, donde se apiñan los edificios del Cau Ferrat, que reúne obras modernistas y cuadros de Rusiñol, Casas y Utrillo, y el Palau Maricel, con varias salas y un claustro con preciosas vistas sobre el Mediterráneo. Sobre el mismo promontorio se alza la iglesia de Sant Bartomeu, que define el perfil marinero de la villa. El recorrido arquitectónico incluye también la Casa Llopis, que refleja la vida cotidiana de una familia de los s. XVIII y XIX y las casas modernistas de Farratges y Josep Sunyer.
