Parque Nacional de Monfragüe, Cáceres

Este espectacular territorio habitado desde la prehistoria, como muestran las pinturas rupestres descubiertas en su término, cuenta con una característica cubierta de vegetación mediterránea que incluye bosques de encinas y alcornoques.  Su escarpado terreno y la abundancia de agua lo convierte en una gran reserva de fauna: ciervos, águilas imperiales, buitres negros… y un cúmulo de parajes de gran belleza, como el Salto del Gitano, en la misma carretera, o la Tejadilla, en las cercanías del embalse de Torrejón. En los últimos tiempos, el parque nacional ha sido objeto de una medida de la Junta de Extremadura que amenaza su equilibrio ecológico: el permiso para cazar jabalíes con el pretexto de controlar su población, algo que compete a la gestión científica del espacio natural.
