Marchal, Granada

El palacio de los Gallardo, un soberbio caserón del siglo XIX también conocido como “la casa Rosa” preside el conjunto urbano de Marchal, una de las joyas más escondidas de la Hoya de Guadix. La localidad busca protección bajo unos farallones de piedra arenisca en el que se abren numerosas casas-cueva, algunas destinadas a alojamientos turísticos. El caserío es de origen medieval aunque se remonta a una necrópolis prehistórica y conserva restos de una iglesia visigótica, conocida como Santa Catalina, un pequeño templo rupestre al pie de un acantilado. El templo parroquial es de construcción muy reciente y se levanta sobre una  ermita que se quemó en 1943. Al este del pueblo se encuentran las Cárcavas de Marchal, un paisaje de agujas y formaciones fantásticas declarado monumento natural.
