Las Minas, Albacete

El núcleo de Las Minas, en la divisoria de Albacete y Murcia, toma su nombre de una explotación de azufre que duró hasta los años 60 del pasado siglo. El paisaje está sembrado de bocas de los pozos de extracción, que llegaban a los 400 metros, y ahora se han convertido en vertederos. Atrás quedan los tiempos en que había cine, farmacia y médico y un casco antiguo, hoy rodeado por bloques anodinos, donde viven los actuales vecinos. Lo más llamativo es el barrio donde vivían centenares de obreros que habitaban en numerosas cuevas perforadas en los cerros que rodean al pueblo. Sobrecoge la pobreza de las viviendas en las que se puede ver la sala con su chimenea y alacenas talladas en las paredes, alrededor de la cual se iban abriendo habitaciones a medida que crecía la familia. Conserva también restos de una fundición y un cementerio, cuya extensión ilustra los estragos de la silicosis.
