Estella, Navarra

Conjunto monumental de la ruta jacobea con un valiosísimo patrimonio, atravesado por el río Ega. En la plaza de San Martín está el palacio románico de los reyes de Navarra, uno de los pocos ejemplos del románico civil, rematado por dos curiosos torreones, y el antiguo Ayuntamiento. Una escalinata conduce a la imponente iglesia de San Pedro de Rúa, que guarda un Cristo gótico y varias capillas de gran interés. Su claustro es del s. XII con bonitos capiteles y columnas retorcidas que componen uno de los conjuntos de mayor riqueza escultórica de la zona. Otros edificios de interés son el convento de Santo Domingo y las iglesias de San Miguel, del Santo Sepulcro y de Rocamador. También cuenta con una importante judería. A poca distancia de Estella se asienta el monasterio cisterciense de Irantzu, una fundación del s. XII con un precioso claustro gótico.
