Cistierna, León

En el tramo alto del Esla, esta villa se alza en una encrucijada de caminos y un punto estratégico en el tránsito ferroviario del carbón que se extraía de la cuenca de Sabero. Estas circunstancias históricas han marcado gravemente la fisonomía del pueblo, que ha perdido buena parte de su patrimonio monumental, incluyendo el templo románico de Santa María, levantado en el s. XII. Hoy la vida de Cistierna parece girar en torno a su estación de ferrocarril, donde permanecen aparcados algunos vagones decrépitos. Merece una visita el Museo del Ferroviario que narra la historia del llamado Ferrocarril Hullero.
