Carrión de Calatrava, Ciudad Real

Cerca de Carrión de Calatrava, una loma que se levanta a orillas de Guadiana ofrece el perfil fantasmal de esta imponente fortaleza árabe, lugar de luchas entre el califato cordobés y los muladíes de Toledo. Tras su sangrienta conquista el 1147 pasó a manos de los templarios y, y más tarde, fue el lugar en el que se gestó la Orden de Calatrava. Su abandono la convirtió en un ruinoso conjunto que apenas evoca el esplendor  del pasado. Actualmente se realizan excavaciones importantes, ha sido objeto de una rehabilitación y, sin duda, merece una tranquila visita. Disfruta de la vecindad del blanco y popular santuario de La Encarnación, con una notable colección de exvotos.
